Just two years into his NBA career, Jusuf Nurkic has already had quite an up-and-down career for the Nuggets. He looked like a star in the making as a rookie, forcing his way into the starting lineup before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The recovery from that injury leaked into 2015-16, and Nurkic had trouble getting back into game shape, which limited his opportunities to make an impact. Compounding issues was the presence of Nikola Jokic, a younger, arguably more talented big man, who finished third in Rookie of the Year voting. Jokic’s presence complicates things for Nurkic’s future, but we’re still talking about a 22-year-old who averaged 8.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 combined blocks and steals in just 17.1 minutes per game, a sign of just how much upside he has. Nurkic’s role could limit him, but he will be worth targeting in the later rounds on Draft Day thanks to his breakout potential.
