Light schedule this week with only five teams playing seven games. That’s a big change of pace from the last few weeks, so you may be surprised to learn just how few two-start options you have to choose from.
Of course, the silver lining is that everyone is in the same boat. Not only that, but the way the turns fall this week, the number of usable two-start options may not be so different.
The top 11 are the kind of pitchers you’d never sit even in a one-start week, and Jacob deGrom, in fact, may end up making only one start. There’s some talk of skipping him after a couple rocky outings, but as dominant as he has been most of the season, you should be thrilled to play him on extra rest even if that comes to pass.
Nos. 12-15 are almost certainly owned in your league, and with the kind of matchups they have on tap, you shouldn’t have too many qualms about starting them. Rich Hill‘s start at Colorado might make you uneasy, especially since it’s his second back from injury, but as good as he looked in the first, he deserves some love. I mean, you stashed him all this time, right?
Matt Boyd and Tom Koehler are the prime sleepers this week, with Zach Davies and Sean Manaea also offering some upside a little further down. In between, you’ll find Jon Gray, Gerrit Cole and Joe Musgrove, three pitchers who you may have recently talked yourself into sitting (or even dropping) only to find out they’re making two starts. They’re boom-of-bust picks to be sure, so you’ll just have to decide how much you want to gamble this week.
