The serious injuries just keep coming during the 2016 preseason. There have been a bunch of players that have gone down over the last few days, and on Sunday afternoon we saw another player get carted off the field.
Mike Jenkins , the former Dallas Cowboys , Oakland Raiders , and Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback that signed with the Arizona Cardinals last month, pulled up lame while chasing after Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins late in the first quarter of the Cardinals’ third preseason game of 2016.
Jenkins crumpled into a heap and eventually had to be carted off the field. He was visibly frustrated, holding his head in his hands as he was wheeled off into the locker room.
No further information about the severity of Jenkins’ injury is known at this point, but it looked pretty bad.
The Cardinals are already relatively thin in the secondary as they await the return of stud hybrid corner/safety Tyrann Mathieu after the ACL tear he suffered toward the end of last season. Arizona still has star corner Patrick Peterson , but beyond that it’s Justin Bethel , third-rounder Brandon Williams , Asa Jackson and a few other guys most people haven’t heard of. Luckily they have some depth at safety (DJ Swearinger, Tyvon Branch , Tony Jefferson ) to cover up for it, and can always move Deone Bucannon back a level from his linebacker spot, given his experience in the secondary as well.
