The award was the third Player of the Week honor for Cabrera, who won the American League award in 2008 and ’11.

Cabrera’s week ended on an uncertain note when he was removed in the first inning of Sunday’s 5-1 loss with a recurrence of a left knee injury.

Cabrera earned the award over other strong candidates, including Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado (12 hits, 1.000 slugging percentage), D-backs catcher Welington Castillo (10 RBIs, .458 OBP), Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez (.321 average, 13 RBIs) and Nationals center fielder Trea Turner (16 hits, four stolen bases).
