Now that Russell Westbrook has extended his contract, the Thunder are hoping that they can convince Blake Griffin to leave sunny Los Angeles for his hometown of Oklahoma City when he is a free agent next summer. It is an ambitious goal as Griffin loves the L.A. lifestyle but the Thunder will likely have plenty of recruiting help from the Clippers forward’s alma mater, Oklahoma University. Especially since the Sooners have already started with their recruitment of Griffin.

While at the school’s alumni game on Saturday, voice of the Sooners Toby Rowland, not-so-subtly dropped a recruiting pitch to Griffin at halftime.

“Blake, I thought it was a thunderous start for your team in this game,” Rowland said. “Tell your team to come out like thunder in the second half.”

Griffin caught on pretty quickly what Roland was getting at but just laughed it off. We will see if he will keep laughing though as this is likely just the first of many veiled attempts by Oklahomans to try and get Griffin to join the Thunder.
