It looks like we finally figured out exactly what it would take for no one to show up to an NFL preseason game, and unfortunately for the Buccaneers, that recipe for attendance disaster happened on Wednesday night.

Just minutes before the Bucs and Redskins got set to kick off at 8 p.m., there were practically zero people in the stadium.

Now, don’t blame Buccaneers fans for this, there’s a solid explanation.

First of all, it’s a preseason game. No one likes to attend those.

Second of all, the game was rescheduled on less than 48 hours notice. The Buccaneers and the NFL decided to move the game, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, to Wednesday. That announcement wasn’t made until Monday night.

And thirdly, no one wants to attend a game during a tropical depression, and that’s exactly what was blowing through Tampa on Wednesday night. The game was actually moved so that it would avoid the worst of the tropical storm, but that doesn’t mean things weren’t bad on Wednesday.

The fans who did show up aren’t really getting their moneys worth, either: The Bucs were trailing 13-0 in the second quarter.

Anyway, here’s one more picture of the braves souls who ventured into a tropical storm to watch preseason football on a Wednesday.
