There are only so many hours that can spent sweating out the heat of training camp, so college football teams pair the team’s physical preparation for the season with some mental preparation as well, including film study and motivational speakers.

Showtime’s cameras, on hand for Florida State’s training camp as part of the network’s “A Season With Florida State Football” show, captured one such speaker who delivered a message that hit home with the Seminoles.

The clip above from the first episode of the program, which debuts on Tuesday following FSU’s season opener against Ole Miss, features former NFL running back Ray Rice delivering a heart-to-heart message in front of the entire team.

“I made the worst decision in my life,” Rice said. “And the reality of it is that I’m not playing football anymore — not because I’m not good enough, but because I made the worst decision in my life.

“So you guys gotta understand, it all came down to decision making. If you’ve got a problem you’ve got to learn to deal with it. One thing I learned throughout this process: We’re not never not man enough to ask for help. I was too busy trying to be the man instead of being a man.”

Rice, standing in front of the team with a Florida State T-shirt on, still holds tightly to the community of football players. “I cannot allow you to go through the same decision making process as me,” he said.
