The 2016 Rio Olympics ended two weeks ago, and since then Olympians have been making the rounds at ballparks all around the country. Aly Raisman let David Ortizwear her medals, Bryce Harper held Katie Ledecky’s gold medals, and April Ross threw out a first pitch barefoot.
On Saturday, gold medal winning gymnasts Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez threw out the first pitch at separate games. Kocian, a Dallas native, threw out the first pitch prior to the Rangers win over the Astros (TEX 12, HOU 4). Hernandez was at Citi Field for the Mets win over the Nationals (NY 3, WAS 1). She’s from New Jersey.
Neither Olympian settled for a boring “climb the mound, throw the ball” first pitch. No, they added some flair. Kocian did a cartwheel and Hernandez did a flip before throwing their first pitches. Check it out:
Before the game both Kocian and Hernandez toured the stadiums and clubhouses. Hernandez met with Mets ace Noah Syndergaard, who is 6-foot-6. She is 5-foot-0. Their sizes made for a fun photo:
Nice work by both Kocian and Hernandez on their first pitches. And congrats to both for winning gold at their first Olympics.
