Braves rookie shortstop Dansby Swanson entered Tuesday night with a slash one of .236/.283/.273 through just 15 career games, but we’ve seen flashes of his immense upside. Against the Nationals on Tuesday, he gave us another glimpse with his first career home run. It just wasn’t what most people would have had in mind when they hear “first career home run.”
Probably not how he envisioned it, but it counts just the same as a 450-footer. So the 2015 number one overall pick is now on the board with a homer.
Swanson does have power, but he’s not really a home-run hitter. Through 105 games in Class A-Advanced and Double-A this season before he was called up, he hit .275/.362/.426 with 25 doubles, five triples and nine home runs. Though he won’t be doing so often, we can probably expect to see his first home run to leave the field of play here within the next few weeks.
