For now, Florida State fans will have to hold their breath when it comes to the status of star safety Derwin James. That puts a sour note on the Seminoles’ 52-8 win over an extremely under-manned Charleston Southern.

James sustained an apparent knee injury in the third quarter of the win. After sitting with trainers on the sideline, James was taken off the field in a cart. Florida State announced later that James would not return to the game.

However, there is no official word on the extent of the injury.

James entered the 2016 season as one of the best players in college football. An All-ACC and All-American selection as a freshman, James led the team with eight tackles heading into Week 2 and had a pick against Ole Miss.
