Well UFC 205 just got a little better. Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley announced on Friday that he will take on No. 1 contender Stephen Thompson in New York City on Nov. 12. Woodley made the announcement during Friday’s weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night Hidalgo.

There is no confirmation yet if this will be the main event or not, but it is sure to make the card a little more appealing.

Woodley, 34, earned the title with a first-round stoppage of Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 in July. He’s riding a three fight winning streak and is 6-2 since joining UFC in 2013. Thompson is 13-1 in his MMA career and riding a seven-fight win streak including wins over Rory MacDonald, Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger.

Lawler was originally expected to fight on the card as well against Donald Cerrone, but was forced to pull out before the fight was made official. Instead, Cerrone will take on Kelvin Gastelum.

Former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is also making his middleweight debut on the card when he faces off with Tim Kennedy.
