We have already discussed at great length whether United States Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III should (or will) pick Bubba Watson with his final captain’s pick this Sunday. Interestingly, there was some development on that front on Monday as Watson, Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger all joined the 11 U.S. Ryder Cup golfers at Hazeltine for some practice.

These are three of the five golfers I have slotted to potentially receive the final captain’s pick from Love on Sunday. I would not be surprised to see any of the three teeing it up next week for America.

There has obviously been a lot of chatter about whether Bubba has the personality to, uh, mesh well in the team room. Love apparently has squashed that notion. Here’s what Tim Rosaforte of Golf Channel had to say about the “Bubba is a bad teammate” rumor.

Love said Watson is “the opposite of that,” Rosaforte reported, and is a popular presence in the team room. “He’s quirky, but so is Phil [Mickelson,]” Rosaforte said Love told him. “I told Bubba after the Olympics, remember, there’s a pick after the Tour Championship,” Love said he told Watson.

So that’s pretty interesting and a good sign for Watson. It’s going to be fascinating to see how all three play at the Tour Championship this week and how that affects the pick which Love will make after Sunday’s final round ends. If you’re in the Bubba camp, all of this is a good sign. Of course this, on the other hand, is not.
