Flores’ absence forced the Mets to start left-handed hitter James Loney at first base against southpaw Madison Bumgarner. Loney went 0-for-1 with a walk before being replaced by right-handed-hitting Eric Campbell in the eighth inning, who struck out as a pinch-hitter in his only at-bat.
Before the injury, Flores was one of baseball’s most productive sluggers against left-handed pitching, batting .340 with 11 home runs in 107 plate appearances. Overall, Flores batted .267 with 16 homers.
