ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Even on Thanksgiving Day the Bills are hard at work preparing for their Week 12 meeting with the Jaguars. Here’s some notes from today’s session…
Sammy Watkins – Today Sammy Watkins practiced for the second straight day after being brought back off the injured reserve list. In the open portion of practice he looked pretty smooth and quick. That said, Buffalo is clearly taking it easy with him. He wasn’t permitted to do any double move work and he took very limited reps running routes. Regardless, Rex Ryan has clearly been encouraged in his first two days back on the field, enough to think he’s got a shot at playing. “I think there’s a possibility of that, I do,” he said of Watkins’ availability this weekend.
LeSean McCoy – With his thumb taped up, LeSean McCoy was limited at practice again on Thursday, but Ryan has very little doubts about his playing status for Sunday.
Mike Gillislee – After leaving practice yesterday with a hamstring injury, Gillislee did not practice today. Ryan called it “concerning” that he wasn’t able to go.
Seantrel Henderson – The big mystery at Thursday’s practice was where in the world was Seantrel Henderson, who was a full participant for Wednesday’s practice. While the team was at work in the field house Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News released a story reporting that Henderson’s absence was due to a doctor’s appointment regarding his battle with Crohn’s disease. The story also went on to say that according to one source, Henderson is facing another suspension from the league for violating the substance abuse policy. Henderson already served a four-game suspension earlier this season for the same offense, which stemmed from his use of medical marijuana to help treat the disease and recover from intestinal surgery. After practice, Ryan confirmed that Henderson had been excused from practice, but contradicted the report that his absence was due to a doctor’s appointment. “It’s a personal thing,” Ryan urged reporters. “It’s not medical or anything like that. He’s excused.” Ryan also said he was “not aware” of a potential second suspension for the 24-year-old.
Percy Harvin – There was also a bit of mystery as to where Harvin was on Thursday. As Ryan revealed after practice, the speedy receiver did not practice due to an illness. Sounds like a sad way to spend a thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
