Teufel, who was an infielder for the 1986 World Series champion Mets, has been with the organization for 24 of the past 30 seasons. He played for the Mets from ’86-91, then returned to the team as a scout in ’98. He has been with the Mets ever since.

When the Mets announced that Sherlock would be taking over as third-base coach, the team had said Teufel would be offered another position.

In a statement at the time, general manager Sandy Alderson said, “Tim Teufel has done an excellent job for us over many years in many different roles. I hope he continues in the Mets organization.”
