Some positions in soccer are more important than others, but for any team looking to reach the top, having a star striker and a rugged, do-it-all defensive midfield sure makes things easier.

And on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg, Barcelona made it look easy early thanks to defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano and striker Luis Suarez.

At Atletico Madrid, Barca scored just seven minutes in after Mascherano robbed the ball with a stellar tackle in the defensive half, with the ball falling to Suarez. The Uruguayan forward did the rest, making Atletico’s defense look silly in the process. Take a look.

What a goal that was from Suarez to do all he did, beginning at midfield with four defenders around him. He played the ball around Stefan Savic and beats Diego Godin and Miguel Moya, but none of that would have happened without Mascherano’s fine tackle on Antoine Griezmann. What an effort by both, and what a way to start one of the most anticipated matches of the month.
