What might have been a breakout season for Vince Velasquez has turned out to be anything but, as the hard-throwing Phillies right-hander has gone 2-6 with a 4.82 ERA. Yet since returning from a six-week absence due to a right biceps strain, Velasquez has shown glimpses of excellence. He’ll attempt to keep going when the Phillies open a four-game series Thursday with Jacob deGrom and the Mets.
